Dublin Zoo recorded 4,200 entries on the first Saturday of July 2026.
School summer holidays began across Dublin on 1 July, leaving parents to fill eight weeks of weekdays with activities that stay within city limits and match varying child ages.
Phoenix Park stretches across 707 hectares and contains the herd of fallow deer that children can view from the marked paths near the Wellington Monument. The same park houses Dublin Zoo, which added a new red panda viewing platform in May. A second option lies five minutes east at the National Museum of Ireland on Kildare Street, where the Viking and medieval displays include replica swords and coins that visitors can handle during supervised sessions.
Adult admission at Dublin Zoo stands at €21, with children aged three to fifteen charged €15.50 until 31 August. The National Museum charges nothing but requires advance online booking for groups larger than six. Both sites open daily at 9:30 and close at 18:00 during July.
Families who arrive before 10:30 on weekdays avoid the longest queues at the zoo entrance on North Road. The museum on Kildare Street offers free lockers for buggies and picnic bags. Visitors who combine both locations can use the 37 bus route that stops at the Phoenix Park gates and continues to St Stephen’s Green, cutting travel time to twenty minutes.
Bookings for the following weekend close at midnight each Thursday through the zoo website and the museum’s event portal. Weather forecasts for the coming week show daytime temperatures near 19 degrees, so light rain jackets remain useful for the outdoor sections of both sites.
