Several community fitness events open for registration in Dublin this July, including a fun run on 18 July and a charity walk on 25 July.

Warmer weather and longer evenings draw more residents outdoors for group exercise after a winter of indoor classes at local gyms. Organisers report rising demand as people seek low-cost ways to stay active near home rather than paying for private trainers.

Events in Phoenix Park and along the Grand Canal

The Phoenix Park 5K fun run starts at 10am from the Wellington Monument on 18 July, with a €12 entry fee that covers a medal and post-run tea at the nearby visitor centre. Further south, the Grand Canal charity walk organised by the local branch of the Irish Heart Foundation begins at Portobello Bridge on 25 July at 9am and covers 8km toward the city centre before looping back through Ranelagh.

Parkrun Ireland recorded 1,245 finishers across its Dublin sites in the first six months of 2025, up from 980 the previous year, according to its annual report released in March. The Phoenix Park course alone averages 420 runners each Saturday morning, with free entry but a suggested €5 donation for timing chips.

How to join and what to expect

Residents can sign up through the Dublin City Council events portal or the Irish Heart Foundation website before spots fill. Those new to group runs should arrive 15 minutes early at the meeting point on Conyngham Road for the Phoenix Park event to collect a bib and meet the volunteer marshals stationed every kilometre.
